Supervision Approach
Jacquie Wise approaches supervision from an integrative and collaborative framework, using a number of different models of supervision, including developmental models.
The supervision processes may include audio or videotapes, live observation, and case reporting.
As a Counselling Supervisor, Jacquie is continually aware of her concurrent responsibilities to her supervisee, to the clients in the supervisee’s care, and to the organization which employs the supervisee.
She will, in turn, be a teacher, a mentor, a coach, a co-therapist and an evaluator.
In group supervision, Jacquie will also undertake the role of group facilitator.
In supervision, Jacquie gives particular attention to the supervisee’s professionalism and skills, within the boundaries of the level of development and experience of the supervisee, and will give ongoing feedback on:
- ethical behaviour
- counseling and client-relationship skills
- verbal and written communication skills
- awareness of legal parameters
- personal awareness
- ability to conceptualise a case
- efficiency and personal organization skills
- ability to self-reflect and self-evaluate
- awareness of own thoughts, feelings and reactions to a client and the counseling
Confidentiality will be maintained at all times except when:
- harm to self/others is clear and imminent
- abuse is suspected, or
- when required to testify as a result of a court order.
Corrective steps will be taken if the required evidence is present that the supervisee:
- is impaired or unable to provide counseling services competently
- does not withhold confidentiality
- oversteps ethical or professional boundaries
Evaluation and Feedback
Supervisees will be encouraged to evaluate themselves, their supervisor, and the supervision process. Open discussion will generate understanding or appropriate changes to suit the individuals involved.
Corrective steps may include reporting the supervisee to their education institute, employing organization, professional association and insurance company.
